I know on our old rx7 drag car we used to run 2 dump valves, one on the hot side and one on the cold If I'm completely honest I'm not sure whether it was neccissary but the people In the know from various drag teams said we should.
That was running big boost tho. Here's a question iv been wondering, how do anti surges compressor housings work? Joined: Apr 20, Posts: Likes Received: 0. Anti-surge housings are odd, as they help a little at both ends of the map. Near the surge line ie high pressure low flow they let air bleed off which allows that compressor to have higher pressure and less flow than the same one without a ported shroud inlet.
Near the choke like ie max flow they work backwards, ie allow a little more air in, or at least that's what's claimed anyhow. They sound good too lol. Mau5 Member. If I may ask a question, I had an s15 with a greddy FMIC and the previous owner had fitted a turbosmart vent to atmosphere Blow off valve, would it have made any difference to which side of the inter cooler piping the BOV was fitted to?
Also, just my opinion, vent to atmo BOVs are for showing off and telling everyone you have a small sausage. Deafening people with screamer pipes is where it's at, make girls gush. Hey BarneyRubble, Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that cars that do that either are letting the accelerator off before full boost hence not enough pressure to hold the BOV open the whole time, EI. Also you can get funny noises from air travelling backwards through a pod filter. PranK Posted July 31, Jay95R33 Posted July 31, That fluttering is sometimes air being pushed back passed the turbo and out the filter   Not really a good thing.
XrSiSt Posted August 1, Posted August 1, So the question remains PranK Posted August 1, TTT Posted August 1, I can answer this.. The flutter is not coming from the valve..
I also have a pod filte.. No other mods. If I back right off the throttle i still get the normal psshhh sound. I hope this explains it. If anyone wants a presentation, just ask..
I'll take you for a quick spin. By the way.. One of my previous cars was a 4wd Ford laser Tx3. The BOV was taken out and the wholes blocked off. My point is that I had no problems with the turbo on that car.. There were hundreds of other issues but not Turbo.
I am not recommending you go out and take your BOV off.. Just sharing some experience. SilverSlyder Posted August 2, Posted August 2, Once a certain level of pressure is reached, the inlet air opens a spring, allowing for the intake air downstream of the turbocharger to either vent to the atmosphere or be redirected back into the turbo.
Instead of the high pressure air trying to work its way back through the compressor surge , a BOV allows it to escape. Another interesting way of tackling compressor surge, but also reducing turbo lag, is by using an anti-lag device for turbocharged engines. This operates much like a blowoff valve, except the air is diverted to the exhaust before it enters the turbine.
This combustion within the exhaust manifold spikes the pressure, keeping the turbocharger spooled while the driver shifts gears. There are other forms of anti-lag as well, for example through ignition delay. By retarding the timing of the spark, you can ensure some of the air-fuel mixture continues to combust while the exhaust valve opens, keeping the turbocharger spooled.
