Why eastenders is bad

She finally landed the man of her dreams, Kush Kazemi, only for him to be thrown under a Tube train by Gray Atkins — the resident Walford murderer. And people laugh. Some-times I just want to see Dot Cotton moaning that the price of biscuits has gone up 10p. The Queen Vic used to be the hub of Albert Square, the perfect environment for a brawl or a christening. In an effort to tap into a younger market, Eastenders attempted to foster a binge-watching culture, experimenting with making all of the episodes in a week available to watch on BBC iPlayer on Mondays, during the Euro football this summer.

But if they really want to create a buzz around the show again, the casting agents should start looking for stars whose characters are as big off screen as they are on.

Made famous during the 80's for its gritty and realistic story telling ways it has carried on the tradition of good old east end villains and sex as well as lies.

But it was the return of Den Watts; that really reeled me in. This character was the heart of the show before the Mitchells arrived For those who don't know. Since then the show has gained great and rich characters, from Dennis Rickman to Johnny Allan; and currently Jack Branning who is a favourite of mine. The plot can be sometimes a little predictable but you have to tune in once you become an addict. The only thing bad is that the writers seem to think every Christmas and New Years someone has to die.

Overall the show is a true British soap. Rabical 8 March On February 19th of this year, 'EastEnders' marked its 30th anniversary by airing that night's episode live. I didn't bother to tune in. All its plots seem to consist of now is adultery and violence, with shouting in lieu of acting. It is easy then to forget just how good the show was at its peak from - The first episode kicked off with the residents of the square witnessing an old man named Reg Cox being carted off in an ambulance following a brutal beating which subsequently led to his death.

Within a matter of weeks after its debut, viewers got to know just how dangerous a place Walford was and each week would tune in to see how the characters lived another day. Perhaps one of the most famous moments from 'EastEnders' was when Den handed Angie divorce papers on Christmas Day after he found out she lied to him about being terminally ill. The Christmas special gave the soap its highest rating of Clement and the late Mike Reid.

Both Pat and Frank brought a much needed dose of pathos and humour to the surroundings and during their time on screen gave us many memorable moments. Who can forget Frank turning up on Pat's doorstep naked save for a revolving bow tie? Reid's character proved so popular he was used in a hilarious advert for Oasis juice. When Reid died in , it was decided that Frank would be written out. After all, Reid had made the character his own to such an extent that to replace him would have been impossible.

In , Pat was killed off when Pam St. Clement decided it was time to quit. Icons of 'EastEnders' were no more. The story lines now are so wooden that you can smell creosote whenever you watch it. I think it's high time UK Gold raided the vaults and gave us all a trip down memory lane. Big Movie Fan 13 December Eastenders is a fantastic British soap along with Emmerdale and Coronation Street. I have been watching it since and it has got better with time.

A lot of people criticize it, saying that it is living off it's reputation but I disagree. It has been consistently good throughout with great characters and storylines. Like any soap, it is unrealistic at times but that is the fun of soaps. No-one ever commutes to work, people don't own their own washing machines, they never finish a drink in the pub and everyone has their breakfast in the cafe. That is the fun of soaps. One criticism I would have made years ago was that Eastenders was too gloomy and didn't have the right balance of humour and tragedy but that has changed these past several years with comedy characters like Barry Evans, Jim Branning and Paul and Patrick Trueman.

Like any good soap, it has tackled what would have once been considered taboo issues such as euthanasia, homosexuality, rape and murder. Eastenders can be summed up in one word-brilliant. Great characters and great stories equals a great soap.

Best Soap Ever rossrobinson 24 December I think that now eastenders have got the awards back on after been beaten with Coronation St last year because of the Tricky Dicky Richard Hillman, Eastenders i think will do alot better now that they have Dirty Den Watts back in the show. It's going to be tough years for the other soaps because Eastenders have always won best soap of the year i think since or i maybe wrong. It's going to be tough now that dirty Den is back beacause i think a lot of peopel will watch it with him in it because years ago there was alot of viewers watching the scene in when Dirty Den Divorced Angie Watts.

I think there was at least more than 20 Million viewers watching that episode. My wife and I watched this abortion from its beginning.

I hated it immediately but my wife became hooked on it for a couple of years. For me it just got worse and worse and the characters were all without question dreary and depressing without any redeeming features. My wife then grew tired of it and we stopped watching altogether.

Occasionally I catch a clip of it or pass through it when channel surfing. There is always someone yelling at someone else or doing something dreadful. There never seems to be any lighter moments or happiness of any kind. That was always my main gripe with it when we first watched it- no humour.

The writers seem to have no idea about drama - they seem to think conflict IS drama, and of course that is only one element of it. Light and shade is sorely needed and actors who can bring something to it. I am sure the actors in Eastenders are competent but they have nothing to work with. It must be the most depressing acting job in showbiz. I fail to understand why the British public watch it and love it.

What on earth does it say about our psyche? I have heard it said that it is "just like real life"-its nothing like my life or anyone's life I know, otherwise we would be flinging ourselves from high buildings or under public transport.

The themes it tackles are far from family viewing but still are shown pre-watershed. It was in a nightclub, her killer breathing heavily as she fell to the floor dead. I was six or seven and terrified. It happened in an episode of EastEnders — a funny, bleak and very British soap opera that is also bizarrely violent. It was an era in which the Slater sisters mingled with Martin Kemp in the Queen Vic, and everybody clutched their pearls when it turned out that Lisa had shot Phil.

I remember a house erupting in flames because children were playing with cigarettes. I remember an Irish character I fancied being assaulted and left for dead in muddy woods. The latter may not have happened exactly like that, though.

I specifically remember looking away from the TV at that point, burying my head in a copy of the Radio Times to block out the noise. But inevitably Max is yet again pining after Tanya — a situation so predictable even the couple's children merely roll their eyes in response. On top of this there are the non-plots — actual screen time was devoted to discovering who had stolen Dot's cold cuts from the fridge.

And then there are the really unbelievable ones. Such as Masood, the square's nicest father figure, dating year-old Ayesha, before the writers shamefacedly let it fizzle out. To cheer us up, they've since put together attractive Denise and slimy egomaniac Ian Beale as the square's supposedly hilarious odd couple.

But seeing as the soap operates a strict looks-blind policy to casting — with Phil Mitchell and Max as the square studs while Ray has been confined to the Fox sisters — it's hardly the most shocking of hookups.
